Yato Tribe

The Yato (夜兎; literally meaning "Night Rabbit") are a race of humanoid Amanto renowned for their incredible strength. It is to be assumed that they are called "rabbits" as rabbits are generally very susceptible to heat exhaustion. Just like the Yatos, direct sunlight weakens them and can even lead to death.

Among every Yato character introduced in Gintama, only four of them are related by blood. Those are Umibouzu, his wife Kouka, their older son Kamui and their youngest daughter Kagura.

Etymology

Like other names in Gintama (such as Shinsengumi), Yato can be traced back to an existing word Yato 野兎 meaning 'Wild Rabbit'.

Biology

The Yato Tribe (夜兎族) closely resemble humans, but are physically much more powerful.

They are known as blood-thirsty Amanto whose killing instincts and insatiable hunger for supremacy leads them to seek out the best fighters of the universe to challenge, even among their own kind. Their amazing supernatural and instinctive fighting abilities, and tremendously overwhelming physical strength, speed, durability, adaptability, reflexes, stamina, endurance, willpower, and senses all of which far surpass human and most other Amanto capabilities gives them an overwhelming advantage in battle, which also means that they are very difficult to defeat. Tsukuyo herself has stated that an entire army wouldn't be enough to handle four Yato. Kagura was able to dodge bullets, and easily catch them with her hands and teeth.

They are also known to have flawless and fair skin and amazingly well-toned bodies, with strong and flexible muscles, incredible regenerative healing capabilities, and immunity. Also they are known to be gluttonous, capable of eating virtually anything in large quantities without trouble, as shown by Kamui and Kagura, and lustful as shown by Housen and Umibozu. Abuto has also stated that men Yato are "well-endowed".

Their only known Achilles heel is their inability to completely adapt to sunlight, which was what killed Housen eventually in Episode 146, though Housen was killed by the sunlight because of his many years inside without the slighest exposure. Normally, prolonged exposure to sunlight will only make Yato feel weaker and sickly, as shown with Kagura in Episode 296.

History

The Yatos original home world was called Kouan. But centuries before the start of the series, the planet was nuked by a coalition of other planets' armies during a war. This killed a sizable part of the population and greatly altered the landscape of Kouan. Most survivors fled the planet while the rest tried to seek out a living in the devastated world, sparking the Yato diaspora. The fleeing survivors will settle on other planets, but will become an endangered species due to their low populations.

Housen was the king of the Yato race, also known as "King of the Night" due to him being the strongest Yato and conquering other Yato. He encounters another strong Yato called Umibouzu but he refuse to submit to Housen. Both Umibouzu and Housen once fought each other continuously for 3 days, the only reason they stopped fighting was because Umibouzu needed a toilet break, and no victor was declared.

Housen founded and lead the Harusame 7th division, Kamui now holds Housen's position. Kamui and Housen used to have a master-and-disciple relationship, which has since broken down due to Kamui's ambition to defeat Housen who along with Umibouzu, were known as the most powerful Yatos. Though still a teenager by all accounts, Kamui's spectacular fighting abilities has elevated him to the rank of Captain of the 7th Division of Harusame's Thunder Guns the most powerful combat unit with the Harusame group. The two followers who tagged along with him to Yoshiwara were Abuto and Ungyou.

Culture

There was an old tradition where the son would challenge their father to the death but this tradition has been thrown away due to the dangerous decline of the species. Kamui tried to revive this tradition by trying to kill his father.

Due to their weakness to the sun, they always carry an umbrella or are fully wrapped up whenever they appear in daylight. Their umbrellas are their main weapon in combat.

The Yato clothing are based on Manchu Chinese clothing.

Due to the betrayal of Shady and him nuking their main server, the remaining Yorozuya members joined him for a short while as he became the new leader of the remaining members as an usurper. He created his own group of people called Kabuchico, but that didn't last long since Shady was an awful leader. Greenpool a user who assisted in the Coup D'etat, helped grow Killua Army by inviting people from the server called Bandit, with his betrayal his friends also left with him. The major people that left Killua Army were : Shady, Zy, Zxynyade, Greenpool, these people were relevant because they could invite a lot of people in the Killua Army and also entertain them. By them leaving they also took the people they invited with them and created their own communities. Thus the Killua Army Empire split in different communities. -Killua Army even though it lost roughly 50% of its user's, it still remained strong and relevant. Killua Army still had 90% of its commanders, and a good amount of users. And it was doing just fine, but Killua Army biggest enemy HM9K and the 9Klan received new members due to this Coup, them being Shady & Greenpool. HM9K sent them in a mission to message every Killua Army member they know to leave the Killua Army server, and join their's and the 9Klan server. Some did, and they were brainwashed with false information on Killua, and Killua Army. The slander in the 9Klan server lasted for over 2 years and more, even now it still happens everyday. Thus the old Killua Army members gained a new view of their Leader but a false one, and started hating on him and joining his enemies. They attacked every Killua Army server, and tried to cause an even bigger rift in the Killua Army.

-A lot of stuff happened but Killua & Kayko were the last remaining Killua Army members. But behind the scenes Kayko joined the peopled that betrayed Killua, and befriending them. But fastforward roughly half a year later, and Kayko helped in creating a fake story, in where apparently the 9Klan leader HM9K got doxed, and he wanted to befriend Killua again like the old days. Killua knew it was shady from the beginning, but he gave HM9K a final chance. Kayko said he was "busy" and that he gon be offline on discord for 1-2weeks, him being offline was as for him to be "neutral" in the situation, not ruining 9K plan. 9K said he wants to get away from this life, and he told Killua he kicked every member, and he gon delete his server and create a new account. Killua knew it was shady and went along with it. But Killua had Shin inflirtrate in the server, and noticed that the server wasn't deleted and that HM9K was leaking absolutely everything that Killua sent him in dm's and their voice-calls together. Killua immediately cut off HM9K forever. Killua told Kayko about the situation, and that he realized Kayko's involvement from the start as it was shady, Kayko confessed, and he was sorry that things went that way. Killua removed absolutely everyone besides a few select people from his discord account, and only left Kayko, deciding to give only him and him only a chance.
