Taiyuu Suzuran (??鈴蘭) , also known as The Courtesan Of The Heavens, and Yoshiwara Paradise's (吉原桃源郷), was the former highest ranking courtesan in Yoshiwara.
Background
Having been the highest ranking courtesan in Yoshiwara, Suzuran excelled in singing and dancing and no one in Yoshiwara could rival her in any of the arts. During her early days in Yoshiwara, Tokugawa Sada Sada would regularly visit her. Later, Sada Sada used her as a tool to lure higher Bafuku officials to vulnerable positions for assassination.
Suzuran would cry everyday in her cell, likely from the atrocities she had brought upon herself, but Rotten Maizou came to her cell to wipe her tears. Eventually, Sada Sada grew tired of Suzuran and asked Maizou to kill her, but Maizou could not do so since he fell in love with Suzuran. Maizou and Suzuran made a promise to each other to escape together when the next full moon came. Suzuran continued to wait for many years but Maizou never returned.
Appearance
In her younger days in Yoshiwara, her beauty attracted all men and no one in Yoshiwara could rival her. Years later, she became short, gained wrinkles and kept her eyes closed.

Suzuran even in her old age would continue to work as a courtesan, holding onto the promise she made with Rotten Maizou years ago. Such a promise would normally not have been taken seriously in Yoshiwara due to its nature as an underground brothel, but owing to the serious situation at hand, Suzuran held onto the promise for all of her life.
