Old Jouishishi

Old Jouishishi ( 旧攘夷志士 ) refers to the ones who particpated in the Joui War and fought against the Amanto.

History

With the arrival of Amanto, the Bakufu was resistant to their arrival but with the Amanto superior technology and weapons. The 12th Shogun collapsed due to anxiety, Tokugawa Sada Sada took the position of Shogun and welcomes the Amanto to their country.

Samurais in the country were against this and lost faith with the Bakufu calling them traitors, this caused a long civil war called the Joui War which lasted about 20 years. Those who participated in the Joui war are known as the Old Joui Patriots.

Saigou Tokumori was a famous Jouishishi with the nickname "White Loincloth Saigou", he fought against Amanto with nothing besides from his monsterous strength and pratically naked in his loincloth. Saigou would retreat and goes back to his family, he would open an Okama bar and welcomes Old Joui Patriots with no place to his.

Terada Tatsugorou and Doromizu Jirochou who loved Kabuki district joined the war in order to protect it but Tatsugorou was killed in action while Jirochou retreated. Jirochou knew that they were fighting a losing war, he went back to Kabuki District and abandons his family. He controlled his Yakuza group with force to stop the Amanto such as Kujaku Hime Kada from invading Kabuki District.

The Bakufu were fighting a war, the Amanto Tendoshu intervened and created the century's greatest epuration Kansei Purge. They hunted down Joui participants and shown the decapitated heads in public. A sudden decline to Joui activity but an incident happened that involves with the death of Yoshida Shouyou 吉田松陽. Which rose the action of the last warriors of the Joui Patriots, the students of Yoshida Shouyo: Sakata Gintoki, Katsura Kotarou and Takasugi Shinsuke.

The last generation of the Joui War were the foursome of Sakata Gintoki, Katsura Kotarou, Takasugi Shinsuke and Sakamoto Tatsuma were only involved in the later part of the Joui War.

At a certain point of the last Joui War, Oboro under the orders of Tokugawa Sada Sada or Tendoshu was sent to kill Jouishishi. Oboro was able to kill many Joui partiots but he encountered Gintoki but failed to kill him.

Sakata Gintoki would earn the nickname Shiroyasha, which is feared by comrades and enemies for his demon like fighting. He fought the war till he disappeared off in front of Terada Tatsugorou grave and met Otose and created the Old Yorozuya and Yorozuya.

Takasugi Shinsuke would create and lead his own force Kiheitai, after the war Takasugi would also disappear and revive his Kiheitai force. Hiraga Saburou was also a part of the original Kiheitai. Takasugi Shinsuke has noted that Saburou was not skilled in swordmanship but was an expert in machinery. After the war Hiraga Saburou wanted to go back to his father side but he was caught in the Kansei Purge.

Katsura Kotarou would continue his Jouishishi activity and becomes one of the famous joui factions.

Sakamoto Tatsuma tired of the endless fighting, thought that he should try to seek a way that both human and Amanto can benefit from instead of meaningless death for everyone. He later broke away from the Joui movement to pursue his dream and created the Kaientai.
