Summary[]
In a flashback, Kondou encouraged the Shinsengumi members to choose their own paths.
At present, before Sasaki could shoot Kondo, the Shinsengumi arrived and disarmed his gun. It was revealed that the Mimawarigumi members capturing Matsudaira were actually the Shinsengumi in disguise. While so, Hijikata mocked Sasaki about the latter's inability to remember his surbodinates, stating that they would take Kondou and Katsura back. As Kondou apologized the others for his decision and commented that their true path is still far off, the members swore to live and die with him.
On the other battlefield, Nobume managed to slightly injure Okita, asking him why his side fought. Stating that the Shinsengumi should have disappeared, she questioned why they pointed their swords to only Sasaki. As she asked, another flashback showed Sasaki sparing Nobume's life after killing a number of Naraku's members.
Meanwhile, Hijikata ordered Sasaki to step aside, which he refused, and they continued fighting.
