Synopsis (extracted from TV Tokyo):

Chougorou of Kitsunebi ...
狐火の長五郎から犯行予告状が届いた！狙いは大江戸美術館に展示されている金の油揚げ像。お奉行の威信にかけて、今度こそ犯行を阻止せんと意気込む同心たち。「ただの凶賊になり下がった狐の野郎は、俺自身の手で捕まえる…」狐を10年間追い続けている小銭形は、謹慎中にもかかわらず万事屋一行と共に現場に駆けつける。厳重警備体制の中、美術館に強行侵入を試みる銀時たち。しかしその時、狐が現場に現れ大混乱に…。

  • At the foot of Mt. Fuji there lies a racetrack which is the venue for an annual rally for Harley Davidson bikes, many bike owners also frequently take their rides there for a spin.
  • One of the activities organised by ハーレーダビッドソン ジャパン株式 (Harley Davidson Jump Company)in spring every year is the 富士ブルースカイヘブン (Fuji Blue Sky Heaven) on the 富士スピードウェイ (Fuji Speedway), a carnival featuring Harley Davidson bikes.
  • Gintoki says he doesn't care whether Kozenigata's wine is "Kamiyu" or "Amuro" -
  • this is a reference to 2 Gundam characters, カミーユ・ビダン (Kamille Bidan) of MOBILE SUIT Ζ GUNDAM and アムロ・レイ Amuro Ray of MOBILE SUIT GUNDAM
  • カミュ (ka-myu) is the Japaneses term for Camus cognac
  • Kozenigata Heiji 小銭形　平次 is a character based on Zenigata Heiji 銭形　平次, a fictitious policeman protagonist in 野村胡堂, Nomura Kodou's novels. The novels were subsequently adapted into movies, TV drama and theatrical productions. Some features of the novel's protagonist were parodied by Gintama's Kozenigata -
  • the 十手 jutte that the original character carries is shown in Gintama's version, refer to episode scene at top right of this page
  • the original protagonist has a penchant for throwing coins to subdue his prey, a habit called 「投げ銭」 Nage Zeni or "Thrown Coin" in the novel
  • Gintama's Kozenigata was shown swinging his penny (the olden type with a hole in the middle　called 寛永通宝 kanei tsuuhou) on a string, which he termed "Zeni Nugi" or "Coin Fling"
  • the original character's sidekick was the rough Hachigorō 八五郎 or more commonly called Hachi, likewise in Gintama, Kozenigata has diminutive Haji to assist him
  • Both characters have wives, both are smokers

  • When Chougorou was walking up the flight of steps to the Golden Tofu sculpture, he gave a brief summary of the role of foxes in Japanese mythology -
  • 稲荷神　いなりしん　Oinari Shin is the overall god of food and agriculture, in particular rice, with the fox as it's messenger. For more details refer to Wikipedia Link
  • Apparently the fox is fond of fried tofu pouches filled with rice, it is this association to Inari that lends this name to the inari-zushi
  • 九尾の狐 kyuubi no kitsune is a 9-tailed divine fox
  • 玉藻前（たまものまえ）　Tamamo no Mae, an evil 9-tailed fox in the guise of a beautiful woman. For more details refer to Wikipedia Link
  • 荼枳尼天（だきにてん） Daikini Ten, an Tantric influenced deity with a fearsome appearance, typically shown with a white fox in Japanese mythology. For more details refer to Japanese Wikipedia Link
  • The leader of the 9-member thief gang referred to themselves as the "Kyuubi"
  • 狐火 kitsune-bi, literally fox-fire, was Chougorou's namesake, it can therefore be assumed that "Kyuubi" means nine-fire
  • However, "Kyuubi" is also possibly a reference to the mythological 九尾の狐 kyuubi no kitsune, a 9-tailed divine fox that is all-powerful, which would explain why there are 9 members in the gang
  • There is irony in their use of white because white symbolises good
