Plot[]

In his opening remarks as the newly appointed prime minister, Katsura tells the people of Edo that the two former shoguns said that their country no longer needed a shogun; there was countless kings in the hearts of each and every person. The crowd cheers him on when he tells them to work together to rebuild Edo. Suddenly, a group of assassins attempt to kill Katsura but the ex-Joui rebel evades all their attack skillfully. Shinpachi finds out that Matsudaira was the one who orchestrated the assassinations. Matsudaira had promised Katsura to bring him into power in exchange for helping him escape the Kokujo Island prison in the Farewell, Shinsengumi Arc. Matsudaira did not think that Katsura would survive the battles and threatens Shinpachi into becoming an accomplice. Princess Soyo tells them that she believes Katsura would make a good leader as he has not forgotten his promise to her brother in the Confessional Arc to build a brand new country.

Under Matsudaira's orders, Shinpachi goes to the pier with Tamako to receive a dangerous weapon from a black market trader and to meet with a top-rate assassin. He calls Sakamoto for help but finds out that the latter was trying to win back money from walking a plank on a alien ship. The distraction caused Sakamoto to fall off the plank. He meets the black market dealer, who turned out to be Mutsu. She explains that the Kaientai lost most of their ships during the battle two years ago. Sakamoto tried to recover their losses by investing in cryptocurrency but left them bankrupt. Mutsu has decided to return to her roots as a space pirate and hands over the ultimate weapon that Matsudaira ordered - Kagura's daughter, Kanna! The little girl punches Shinpachi in the face.

In a small village, Gintoki visits the burned down remains of the Shoka Sonjuku school. He sees Takasugi in front of a grave, which Takasugi explains belonged to Oboro due to the promise he made in Episode 328 to bring him back. Gintoki and Takasugi strike at each other. Gintoki inflicts a cut on Takasugi's face but is shocked to see the wound close up immediately. He realises that something is amiss, but the two were quickly surrounded by the local policemen, giving Takasugi the opportunity to escape. Gintoki is arrested by the policemen led by none other than Hijikata.

In the interrogation room, Gintoki and Hijikata bicker like the old days. Gintoki mocks Hijikata for his demotion as he was now working in a rural village. Hijikata said that the Shinsengumi has just split up temporarily and goes on to inform Gintoki that the bodies of the Tendoushuu also disappeared, along with Takasugi's crew, from the SS Heavenly Bird two years ago. As Utsuro's blood still flowed within those bodies, there were rumours that the Tendoushuu have returned to claim their lost Altana. He suspects that Takasugi's group has links to the recent rise in terrorist attacks across planets that have nationalised Altana. Gintoki defended Takasugi, stating that the ex-terrorist did everything he could to overturn the world that Utsuro and the Tendoushuu created, but Hijikata replied that Takasugi was never picky about the means to an end.

The cyborg-looking scribe in the room joined in the interrogation, much to Hijikata's dismay that a background character could stand out so much. The cyborg starts to cry at the fact that nobody has searched for him after he has lost his memories; Gintoki said that his tears were proof that he once had people who cared about him. Encouraged by Gintoki's words, the cyborg takes out his identification card which reveals that he was actually...Yamazaki! Gintoki and Hijikata admit that they have forgotten about him, and robot Yamazaki chases them out to the yard. Gintoki takes the opportunity to escape but tells Hijikata that he and Yamazakii were still the same as before. He asked if the Yoruzuya were doing alright and Hijikata tells him to see for himself.

Back at the pier, Shinpachi was still reeling from the shock of finding out that Kagura has bore a daughter. Kanna explains that she was a clone created by Kagura. The top-rate assassin, Sougo, arrives at the scene and fires a gun at the group.
