Introduction[]

Two years after Utsuro's defeat, everyone in Edo is off doing their own thing. Just how much has everyone changed?

Plot[]

Shinpachi stands up against the Amantos for the young waiter, similar to the way Gintoki helped him when they first met, only to be beaten up by the restaurant owner. It turns out that the waiter was the owner's son and he kicks both Shinpachi and the Amantos out of the restaurant for hurting his son. As the Amantos leave, Shinpachi recognises that there was no way he could replicate what Gintoki did for him. He returns to the Yoruzuya house and wonders what Gintoki would think when he saw how strong everyone else has become.

Two years ago, Kagura and Shinpachi help Gintoki up. He remarks that it was not yet the time and place to die, as their mission is far from complete. On the SS Heavenly Bird, Takasagi wanders alone into the room where the Tendoushuu were kept. The SS Heavenly Bird touches the ground, with Prince Hata's spaceship as the final shield that prevented a large impact. The Yoruzuya return to their badly damaged home and Gintoki comments that there are no victors in a war. Kagura tells them that she will set off on a journey to find a way to resurrect Sadaharu, who has fallen unconscious and shrunk into the size of Kagura's palm. Shinpachi offers to follow her, but she rejects him as she did not want them to abandon their planet. Gintoki explains that he started Yoruzuya Gin-chan because there was nothing that he wanted to do. Soon, as like-minded individuals gathered in the Yoruzuya, he lost the chance to quit. He decided that if they found something that they needed to do, he would close the shop down. Kagura and Shinpachi are shocked, but Gintoki tells them that he too has found something that he wanted to do.

Fast forward to two years later, Shinpachi runs Yoruzuya Gin-chan by himself to carry on Gintoki's legacy. A TV plays a program about the famous Last Samurai who saved the Earth from destruction by the SS Heavenly Bird. The hero turns out to be...Madao! They interview an Amanto, who vouches for his heroic nature and ability to command both allies and enemies.

Tae punches the TV to end the program, as she did not like how Hasegawa was claiming all the credit for himself. She later reveals that it was because she did not like the way he dressed. Kondou comes in with dinner prepared for the family. Shinpachi tells Kondoou that everyone was shocked when Kondou resigned from the Shinsengumi. Kondou explains that he was about to become a stay-home dad. Shinpachi comments that everyone has moved on with the times except him.

Otose and Catherine were surprised that Tae and Kondou would have a shotgun marriage, but Catherine explains that couples would tend to form as an anime reaches it final chapters. They ask to see the wedding photos, which reveal that Kondou has actually entered a political marriage with an actual gorilla from another planet and was just cooking for the Shimura household as part of his husband training. Suddenly, a young green-haired girl bursts into Otose's bar and calls Shinpachi her father.

Shinpachi denies that he is her father as he was still a virgin. The little girl turned out to be a mini copy of Tama named Tamako, whom Gengai created to help Tama collect memories while her main body is asleep. While Gengai was able to repair Kintoki, he has not yet been able to revive Tama as she was a special robot that he did not have spare parts to. Tamako follows Shinpachi around town and remarks that he appeared to be lonely after Yoruzuya disbanded. She asks if Shinpachi stayed behind because he did not have anything else to do. Shinpachi thinks back to how he assured Gintoki that he would be alright without them, as he would be busy helping to rebuild Edo, training his swordsmanship skills, chasing after Otsu-chan and bringing back his father's dojo. The three bid their farewells and part ways. But despite there being many things that he wanted and needed to do, Shinpachi found himself stuck in his old ways and running Yoruzuya alone.

Two police officers stop Shinpachi for being a lolicon but Nobume, who is now the Commissioner-General of the Police, arrests him instead. At the police headquarters, he meets Princess Soyo, who tells him that she has appointed Nobume as the new chief she wanted to build an era where women could be independent and shine. Shinpachi is revealed to be tied up outside the building, apparently hired by Nobume to clean the windows after finding out his story. Nobume said that she has taken up the role to protect Princess Soyo and the country from old Bakufu officials with questionable loyalty. Shinpachi asks about what happened to the Shinsengumi, who should have rose up the ranks quickly for their heroic acts. Matsudaira explains that sharp swords were always scorned in peace times. The new Bakufu government has drawn up a list of orders for the Shinsengumi - Hijikata was demoted, Shimaru has resigned and Sougo was forced to commit seppuku. The Shinsengumi has been cast aside by the new prime minister of the country, Donald Zurump. Shinpachi said that the country is doomed with Katsura as its new leader.
