Introduction[]
Plot[]
Utsuro mocks the Yorozuya trio for giving up so much and gaining so little, only temporarily stripping him of his immortality. He points out that their glimmer of hope, Sadaharu, was slowly fading away. The Yoruzuya trio think back to how they always greeted Sadaharu with "I'm home" every time they returned to the house. Shinpachi tells Sadaharu to hold on...but Altana burst out across Edo. Utsuro said that Sadaharu must be dead; Utsuro and the other Naraku begin to regenerate. However, they hear Sadaharu's bark as he rises up into the sky.
Earlier that evening, Ane suggests that they serve as a medium for ordinary people to convert their life energy into power to suppress the ley lines. Mone was hesistant as they would be forcing ordinary folks to carry the burden of their clan, but Nobume was confident that the townsfolk would stand by their friends. The priestesses transfer everyone's life energy to Sadaharu and together they successfully close up the Altana gates. The Yagyuu family, Four Devas, Hyakka and Oniwabanshuu fend off the Naraku soldiers. Nobume strikes at Utsuro but he pushes her back. Utsuro tells her that humanity is cowardly and cruel; humanity as he knows it should have given up in fear by now. He wonders who these people are, as his sword starts to shake and his body wavers due to an unknown emotion. Nobume tells him that he has forgotten that humans are creatures who fight their own weaknesses. Gintoki calls him a creature who fears humanity. As Utsuro flashes back to being Shouyou and walking next to a young Gintoki, he denies that he fears humanity; he simply did not understand the person who caused him, someone who always hated humans, to create a version of himself, Shouyou, who loved humans dearly. He questions how Gintoki was still able to stand here next to him, despite everything that he has gone through. Umibouzu, Kamui, Kondou, Hijikata and Sougo all attack Utsuro with the Yoruzuya.
Utusuro sees the image of a young Gintoki in front of him and Shouyou holding him from behind, and admits that he has always known how powerful the little boy and humanity could be. Gintoki had the potential to destroy him and this motivated Utsuro to want to get rid of him. Gintoki stabs him and although Utsuro tried to retaliate, Kagura, Shinpachi, Umibouzu, Kamui, Kondou, Hijikata and Sougo surround and stab him together. Utsuro realises that Shouyou, a mere fragment of his long existence, was still a part of him and has destroyed his eternity.
In the SS Heavenly Bird, Shinjaku wonders if there is anything they could do to stop the energy from the Flame of Kagutsuchi from being unleashed upon impact. Hankai offers to access the central system to keep the energy under control, but believes the chances of doing so are slim. Sakamoto and Katsura believe that no matter what happens, their friends on Earth is waiting for them.
Utsuro pushes the group away and tells them that humanity has chosen a life of endless suffering, and one day they would understand that nobody can save them anymore. He jumps backward into the Altana gate and tells Gintoki that nobody can save Shouyou anymore; the terminal falls over the gate and closes it. Over Edo, falling spaceship and debris crash into the buildings. Everyone watches in shock as the SS Heavenly Bird finally hits the ground.
Two Years Later[]
Through Shinpachi's narration, viewers find out that Edo was slowly rebuilding itself. The city's skies and streets were once again filled with spaceships and Amanto. Shinpachi returns to the restaurant he used to work at, to find a group of Amantos bullying a young waiter.
