Introduction[]
Plot[]
Utsuro wonders why Gintoki chose not to end his suffering and continues to bear the burden of killing his teacher. In return, Utsuro chooses to also bear the burden of cutting down his disciple. Gintoki retorts that they were not teacher and disciple, just a villain and the Yoruzuya. Gintoki's sword could not reach Utsuro as the Naraku attack them relentlessly. Nobume notices the Altana Liberation Army's ships approaching Edo and tells them to escape. A ship fires at the pier, destroying the Naraku, as Nobume grabs Gintoki and runs away. She pushes Gintoki into the sea as a bomb hits the two of them.
As the explosion settles, Kagura and Shinpachi emerge from the rubble, to see Gintoki holding on to a badly injured Nobume. Gintoki tells her to live on and carry on the fight as Mirawarigumi vice-chief and for the sake of Isaburo. She wonders how she is able to protect the Yoruzuya and the city from evil, now that Edo has lost both its special police forces.
In the Bakufu castle, the remaining retainers argue about their next steps; they believe that Nobu Nobu had already abandoned the country and that they should surrender before it was too late. Princess Soyo enters the room and asks them to flee the country, while she watches over the castle and the city. In a flashback, Zenzou asks Princess Soyo to leave the planet, as he swears to protect her after failing to protect her brother, but she wishes to stay on and fight with the rest. Momochi tells Zenzou that while using his own life to make up for those lost was admirable, he should not forget about the friends who were still doing their best to live on. Zenzou tells the princess to carry out her wishes, not as the princess but as Shige Shige's sister, and leaves her under Momochi's care. Back to the present, Princess Soyo defends the castle alone, as Enshou orders his ship to fire at the castle.
Sadaharu carries Nobume as the Yoruzuya run into Edo, which was being attacked from the sky by bombs and laser beams. On the ground, the Yoruzuya tries to evade attacks by robot tanks. Surrounded by the robot tanks and on the verge of giving up, Gintoki flashes back to his childhood where he was helpless against Shouyou during their practice fights; he wonders if he has made any progress since then and realises that he might never be able to reach Utsuro.
Suddenly, Kondou's voice appears and tells them it was not over yet. The Shinsengumi has returned and had taken control over half of the robot tanks. The army recognises them as the police, who have come to arrest them for "traffic violations". The Shinsengumi tells the Yoruzuya that the battle has just begun and warns them not to fall behind.
At the Bakufu castle, it was revealed that Enshou's missile did not destroy the castle. Matsudaira has returned, with his own troops initially gathered to resist Nobu Nobu's rule, to protect Edo. In their absence, the Shinsengumi has gathered rebels across the country and procured advanced weapons and battleships, using the old Bakufu's connections and gaining support from other countries. However, a large robot shows up to attack them. Kondou appears to have grown stronger and unleashes his new ability, which involves shedding weights attached to him and all his clothes. However, he was easily defeated (by his own error) and taken away by Shinpachi. Hijikata and Sougo step forward to release their newfound powers (Hijikata increases his lung capacity by quitting hid smoking habit and Sougo continues to harass the vice-chief by wasting mayonnaise before him) but were unsuccessful in hitting the robot with their swords. A "new character" appears and destroys the robot with a rocket launcher...he is introduced as "Zakiyama".

Trivia[]
- Bessatsu Margaret is a monthly shojo manga magazine published by Shueisha, which also publishes Weekly Shounen Jump.
- With the Shinsengumi joining the fight, several changes were made to the opening: Kondo, Hijikata and Sogo now stand before the Shinsengumi's headquarters; and the Shinsengumi members can now be seen helping the Odd Jobs' members in their fight in Edo, with their appearance replacing the scene from before where Gintoki was seen worried, with sweat dripping down his face.
