Introduction[]
The Yorozuya visits Tetsuko's blacksmith shop and Gintoki finds himself with a sword up his behind. The sword's wife is in the care of Sougo and a serial killer wields the most powerful and dangerous Amanto sword... and all three end up colliding in this tale.
Plot[]
In a dark alleyway, a man is attacked by an unknown figure, but was easily defeated. His sword is left destroyed next to his body.
The Yorozuya visits Tetsuko's blacksmith shop to resharpen Otose's husband's sword for his death anniversary. While there, they stumble across a lone sword without its scabbard, and Gintoki throws it into the fire. They hear the sword screaming in pain, and the sword jumps out of the fire and into Gintoki's butthole. The sword introduces himself as Kusanagi, an Amanto from the Planet Excalibur. The Excaliburlings have bodies made of liquid metal and serve as mercenaries in various wars as they can be forged into different weapons. He asks for their help in finding his scabbard wife, whom he was separated from when his previous put them up for sale, and is using Gintoki's butthole as a temporary home.
The trio and Tetsuko set up sword fortune telling booth to attract sword owners so that they can look at their scabbard. The unknown killer from the start of the episode stops at the booth and Kusanagi starts quivering in fear in Gintoki's butthole. The man leaves shortly and Kusanagi explains that they should avoid the man. Sougo approaches the group and reveals that he was tracking the man but had let it escape. He arrests Gintoki instead, for violation of the sword ban and for public indecency. Kusanagi realises that Sougo was carrying his scabbard wife.
Back at the Shinsengumi headquarters, Kondo and Hijikata are investigating the death of the Joui Rebel. They determined that the killer was Senbei the Manslayer, an ex-Joui Rebel who betrayed his comrades after becoming obsessed with a black sword that he had picked up. Hijikata was concerned that the swords of the victims had all be ripped out at the hilt, and that Senbe's objective might not be to slay the men but their swords instead.
Sougo walks pass with a handcuffed Gintoki. The two follow them and watch as Sougo pulls the sword out of Gintoki's butthole. Sougo was surprised that Gintoki owned an Excalibur too. Tetsuko asks if Sougo would allow Kusanagi to be returned to his original home, but his scabbard wife did not recognize him. She said that Sougo was her saviour who bought her from a shop and she appears to have fallen in love with him and his sword. Upset that his wife has moved on and forgotten about him, Kusanagi retreats into Gintoki's butthole again, going much deeper this time. As Sougo turns to leave, Gintoki attacks him and challenges him to a sword duel instead; the more superior sword would stake claim to the scabbard. Kondo and Hijikata announce that the duel would take place the next day.
Gintoki was eager to settle the dispute to get Kusanagi out of his butthole, but Shinpachi is worried as he would be up against the Shinsengumi ace swordsman. The group use a truck to pull Kusanagi out, but the sword refuses to budge as he did not think he could win the match. With Tetsuko's encouragement, Kusanagi agrees to allow her to reforge him into a sharper sword. However, with a beat of her hammer, the sword shatters into half...

Trivia[]
- The name "Kusanagi" is a reference to Kusanagi-no-Tsurugi (草薙の剣), a legendary Japanese sword and one of three Imperial Regalia of Japan.
- The sword mentioned how he felt like he was walking around naked without his scabbard, and Shinpachi comments that it was inappropriate to be saying that. This is a joke about Tsuyoshi Kusanagi, a member of Japanese boyband SMAP, who had been arrested for public indecency.
- After declaring that Sougo and Gintoki will be having a fight, Kagura puts on an eye patch and changes her clothes to those of Yabuki Joe's coach, Tange Danpei, from the Ashita no Joe series. Incidentally, Kagura has worn this outfit before (see: Episode 163) and so has Kondo (see: Episode 229).
- The World Clash Tournament is likely a reference to the World Martial Arts Tournament from the Dragon Ball series.
