Introduction[]

Hasegawa has a life-or-death encounter with assassins.

Plot[]

Hasegawa asks the assassin for a quick and painless way to die, and tries to convince the man to shoot him. The assassin, Ichirou, tells him that he does not waste any shots, and suggests that Hasegawa jump off the opposite skyscraper, where his target was currently holding a party at, so that he could shoot both of them at once.

Hasegawa goes to the skyscraper, only to encounter another assassin at the rooftop, who was hired to kill Ichirou. Hasegawa asks this assassin to shoot him, but the assassin claims that he only kills scumbags, and suggests that Hasegawa to return to previous building to lure Ichirou into a position where he could snipe him. That way, Hasegawa would become a scumbag and make it possible for the assassin to shoot him as well.

Hasegawa pretends to have been injured by the enemy and asks that Ichirou carry him to another spot in the building, but Ichirou abandons his post to bring him to the hospital. Hasegawa realizes that the man was actually a nice person. Suddenly, shots were fired at the two of them. Ichirou offers to act as the decoy and hands Hasegawa a knife to kill the sniper.

He returns to the skyscraper, only to find the other assassin collapsed on the ground. The assassin said that he has lost his "rounds" in a moment of panic, but that even if he did not, he would not have been able to shoot Ichirou successfully. The assassin revealed that his boss, an Amanto who resembles a boar, was a slave trader who had stolen Ichirou's younger sister away. Ichirou had targeted the Amanto to rescue his sister. At that moment, the Amanto and his men appear and the assassin fires his gun at them.

The Amanto captures the assassin, who is revealed to be Ichiko, Ichirou's younger sister, dresssed as a man. To the Amanto's horror, Ichirou shoots at them. Hasegawa jumps out from behind and pushes Ichiko off the building, only to be saved from falling by a stopper from Ichirou's gun.

Hasegawa exclaims that he still did not manage to die, as Ichirou remarks that Hasegawa still has his wings.

Introduction[]

The Shinsengumi and Mimawarigumi compete over solving a fictional case.

Plot[]

To ensure that the leaders of various police departments would not forget their field work skills, Matsudaira organises a crash course for upper management. Hijikata believes that the Shinsengumi has no need for a crash course as they are involved in field work daily. He insults the other participants, whom he believes only landed their roles due to family connections.

Mimawarigumi chief Sasaki, who overhears the conversation, said that he would reform the police department when he becomes director-general, and will start by firing Sougo and Hijikata. The two groups start to argue, until Matsudaira fires a bullet at them.

The Shinsengumi and Mimawarigumi experience a crime scene virtual reality simulation and challenge each other to solve the crime. The victim was revealed to be Momotaro, and guided by the folklore, come up with various explanations to his death. They accuse various creatures of being responsible for the murder, including the elderly couple who found him by the river bank, his animal companions and even Momotaro himself for causing his own death by choking on kibi dango. In the end, Matsudaira reveals that the body did not belong to Momotaro, but was a demon disguised as the peach boy, and the true culprit was the brain tumour which caused the demon's premature death, to everyone's disbelief.

Trivia[]

  • The fictional case is based off the story of Momotaro, or Peach Boy (桃太郎), a popular hero of Japanese folklore. Momotaro was born from a giant peach, which was found floating down a river by an old, childless woman who was washing clothes there. The woman and her husband discovered the child when they tried to open the peach to eat it. The child explained that he had been bestowed by the Gods to be their son. The couple named him Momotaro, from momo (peach) and taro (eldest son in the family). When he was a teenager, Momotaro left his parents to fight a band of demons who marauded over their land, by seeking them out in the distant island called Onigashima or "Demon Island". En route, Momotaro met and befriended a talking dog, monkey and pheasant, who agreed to help him in his quest in exchange for a portion of his rations (kibi dango or "millet dumplings"). At the island, Momotaro and his animal friends penetrated the demons' fort and beat the band of demons into surrendering. Momotaro and his new friends returned home with the demons' plundered treasure and the demon chief as a captive.
  • The game Sougo and Nobume play appears to be an installment of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms simulation game series.
