Introduction[]

The gang discover the truth behind the old man and look to reunite him with Ikumatsu and her ramen.

Plot[]

In the sewers, Hasegawa explained that some people in the homeless community wanted to forget about their past, and some others could not remember even if they wanted to. At the same time, the Nishikiya shopkeeper visited the Yoruzuya and shared that years ago, Daigo had confronted Ikumatsu's mother for not telling the truth about her father. Her father had saved a young boy from drowning, and in the process lost his memory and married another woman. Ikumatsu's mother could not bear to tell her daughter that her beloved father was no longer the same person that he was. Hasegawa went on to tell Gintoki and Katsura that a man suffered from memory impairment and ended up in the waste dump. One day, a young man approached him and wanted to repay his debt by inviting him for a bowl of ramen. The young man was Daigo, who was the boy he saved. While the homeless man did not pay much attention to Daigo's tearful plea, every New Year's Eve, he would find himself wandering into a ramen shop. In a flashback, Ikumatsu and her parents would share one bowl of soba on New Year's Eve. As a result, the homeless man would split the bowl of ramen into three, as if by instinct. Hasegawa's story promted Musashi to split the bread crumbs he was holding into three, offering two pieces to Gintoki and Katsura, revealing that he was Ikumatsu's father.

The brother-in-law and his gang of vagabonds appear in the sewers. Meanwhile, his men had surrounded Ikumatsu's ramen shop. Unfazed, Katsura and Gintoki use Musashi and Hasegawa to attack the men. Gintoki asks Katsura to escape while he fends off the men and tells him that he would allow the long-haired samurai to hog the spotlight and rescue Ikumatsu. Katsura admits that there was never any spotlight on him, that they were simply led to this stage by the two men that loved her, leaving only leftover soup for him to sip on. Gintoki states if they were able to help the two men reach out to her, then it did not matter if Katsura's own feelings never did; Katsura was still going to after her, for the sake of his favourite ramen. Katsura responded that he was sick of ramen, and that leftover soup was enough to satisfy him, before Gintoki kicked him and Musashi away. Gintoki takes on the men along, with Hasegawa as his weapon of choice, stating that only those who have reached rock bottom can make it to the top in this world, and that he and Hasegawa were the ones who have fallen into a bottomless pit of despair.

At the ramen shop, Shinpachi and Kagura take on the vagabonds, allowing Ikumatsu to make an escape to deliver ramen to her father. She realised that she was the one who had strayed away from her family by forgetting about him, while he continued to watch over her even after he has lost his memory. Midway through her delivery, she was knocked off the bridge by an attacker. Katsura watches from the river bank as she falls into the water, still trying to protect the bowl of ramen meant for her father. Musashi jumps into the river, and as he saves her from drowning, tells her that he was already full from the meals shared with everyone, and that she should share the bowl of ramen with the people by her side. Katsura grabs Ikumatsu and prevents her from being washed away by the currents. However, Musashi was nowhere to be seen, leaving behind only his scarf.

On New Year's Eve, Katsura visits the shop again and Ikumatsu prepares a bowl of ramen for him. When asked why Katsura and the Yoruzuya trio had not been to the shop lately, Katsura replied that the Yoruzuya were making him work to repay them for their help. Ikumatsu believed that they kept their distance out of concern for her. She asks that he eat the ramen as he was the only person close to her left. He declined her offer as he felt like he did not have a right to share ramen with her as a family member, but told her that he was willing to share her troubles as a friend. As he walked out, Musashi entered the shop in a wheelchair. He ordered a bowl of ramen and divided it into six portions.

Plot[]

Hasegawa stands at the edge of skyscraper, wondering if he would be able to gain wings. A man wearing shades approaches him and tells him not to jump, as it would cause him problems if Hasegawa created a scene. The man sets up a sniper gun and tells Hasegawa that life is precious. Hasegawa calls him out for the irony in his statement, since the man was clearly an assassin who was trying to take out another life. The two men ended up arguing about whose shades were cooler.
